A Love Letter to Kynance Cove, Cornwall. Across the seasons, across 5 years.
A place I have visited with friends, family, lovers and alone. A place I continue to return to, I have made the photographs within this coming post over the last 5 years. I have repeatedly visited this breathtaking corner of the UK with the same excitement and the same overwhelmed reaction each time. In every weather, in every season, the beauty of this section of the South West Coast Path stands out to be my favourite. From the expansive views down to Lizard point and out across the ocean, to the hidden cave that can only be found when the tide is out, the view is outstanding. The ocean brings secrets into the coast’s formation and the edge of the land brings resilience with its rugged imperfections, a captivating scene in every direction.
I have witnessed this corner of the island in blistering sunshine, heavy rain, strong winds and grey skies. I’ve weaved in and out of hoards of toursists, brushing shoulders whilst navigating the coast paths and I’ve been here on days that have brought solitude and space, just myself and the ocean between the black rocks. I have seen surfers ride the waves, children play in the sand, groups of friends celebrate birthdays. The rocky paths have held my weight in joy, sadness, excitement and heartbreak. Thankfully, every emotion within the sands of this beach is washed out to sea by the ocean that can be calm or violent, crystal clear or dark blue. Every moment here is fleeting, ever changing, almost in tune with the weather.
I have been drawn back season after season, year after year. Some of my greatest ideas have been conceived on the cliff tops here, some have come to fruition and some carried off with the wind out to nowhere, soon forgotten as I’ve driven away. In every weather, in every season, the ocean here feels different somehow. It’s not a subtle repetative draw of the tide, it’s wild and refreshing. It’s unique but it’s consistent, in ever changing circumstances, it’s grounded. For some reason, it feels like home.
